When I fist came to the US, many years ago from Switzerland, I worked and lived in DC. I rented a small one bedroom apartment within walking distance to the Red Line and didn't own a car. Quite frankly I didn't really understand the power of Real Estate back then. You have to realize I grew up in Switzerland where mostly everyone is a renter, so owning Real Estate wasn't a dream for me back then. Fast forward I met my husband the Realtor, he got me interested in Real Estate, explained the advantages of owning versus renting and I saw the advantages immediately. Well I always new owning your own home has its advantages, but I just didn't think it was for me at least at that point in my life.

So looking back at my first years in the US I wasted a lot of money on rent. Considering I paid as much for rent as I pay now for my mortgage.

When my then boyfriend, now husband suggested we look into purchasing a home in Woodbridge I knew nothing about Woodbridge. All I knew about Woodbridge at that time was that my commute would be longer then the 10 minute metro commute I was used to and that I would need a car. I did a lot of research and was drawn to Woodbridge. When we initially moved to Woodbridge we bought a townhouse in Lake Ridge. I loved to live in Lake Ridge and enjoyed all Lake Ridge has to offer. Then when it became time for us to upgrade we bought a single family home in Dale City.

Since I moved to Woodbridge, Woodbridge has changed quite dramatically. Now there are many more restaurants including the new restaurants at Stonebridge and Potomac Mills. Woodbridge is constantly growing, due to its convenient location, local Woodbridge schools and everything Woodbridge has to offer.

1. Home Prices in Woodbridge and surrounding area are affordable. With interest rates still relatively low and affordable prices the Prince William area and Woodbridge in particular is a great place to be. Here are some of the homes you can find in Woodbridge. Nice townhomes and single family homes below 300k. Large single family homes in the mid to upper 300s to mid 400s. Luxury homes are affordable in the Woodbridge area.

2. Close to everything. Woodbridge is close to Quantico, Fort Belvoir, Pentagon and DC. Making it an ideal commuter option. Woodbridge has many shopping and dining options including Potomac Mall and the Stonebridge Shopping center with its many restaurants. Woodbridge has changed quite a bit over the past couple of years and you can truly find everything you want and desire in Woodbridge, but if you can't DC is just a short driving distance away.
3. Woodbridge has plenty to offer when it comes to recreation, there are several parks and so much more including community pools, walking trails, sport fields, golf courses and so forth. I personally live close to the Dale City Waterpark with its great slides, and trust me you are never too old for these slides, lol.
4. Woodbridge has great commuter options. Before I became a full time Realtor I used to work in DC and I know the commuter options first hand. There are commuter buses PRTC, local buses OmniLink, VRE Train Stops and the many commuter lots with ride sharing options or slugging options. For anyone not from this area slugging is a great way to get to and from work. If you are not familiar with slugging look it up.
5. My friends live in Woodbridge. Originally I am from Germany but I was raised in Switzerland, so I consider myself both German and Swiss. This area has many Europeans and when I moved here I found a very nice group of German friends, which was great and of course not to forget all my American and international friends that live in or around Woodbridge. 

So there you see why I love to live in this area. It wasn't always like this. When I first came to the US I rented a one bedroom apartment in DC and was perfectly happy not knowing or realizing that I was wasting my money on rent. My landlord was supper nice so looking back at it, its okay. I also had lots of fun living in DC and enjoying the DC night life. Well when my then boyfriend and now husband decided he wants to purchase a home in Woodbridge, I almost broke up with him because I couldn't see myself moving away from the city. Well here I am, best decision I ever made. I didn't break up with the man of my dreams and I fell in love with living in Woodbridge. I am truly happy here. The other day we went to DC to see the soccer match between Germany and the US (I was not happy with the end score at all), and being stuck in terrible traffic, having to look for parking made me appreciate where I live even more. I don't miss living in a one bedroom apartment in DC, being stuck in DC traffic, having to pay parking tickets oh and paying the same amount of rent for a one bedroom place which I pay now for my mortgage note. Have I mentioned that I currently live in a 5 bedroom single family home in Woodbridge.
