10 Things to Do in Woodbridge VA by Claudia S. Nelson

Things to Do in Woodbridge VA

There are so many things to do in Woodbridge VA here are some of my top things to do in and around the Woodbridge VA area.

These 10 things to do in Woodbridge is a suggestion and if you have anything else to add please let me know I would be more than happy to adding it to the list.

  1. One of my favorite things to do in Woodbridge VA is going to the Lake Ridge Park and enjoy the nice water view and feed the birdies. There is much more to do there. Lake Ridge Park offers Golf, Mini Golf, Boating, and so much more. It is great for picnics or just for a walk in the park.
  2. Go for a walk in historic Occoquan, enjoy a drink at the one of the waterfront restaurants or anywhere else in Occoquan. Occoquan with its many shops, restaurants, waterfront walks and more has lots to offer. I personally like spending some time in Occoquan relaxing and going for a walk. Occoquan offers great Restaurants and there is always something to do. Occoquan also offers some great brunch places.
  3. Another of my favorite things to do in Woodbridge VA is going to Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center I like to browse at Wegmans and all the other great stores. One of my favorite stores is located at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. White House Black Market my all time favorite store. Stonebridge also offers great Restaurants, an excellent gym and they always have great events going on. The next one coming up Taste of Woodbridge.
  4. If you have a dog, take your dog to the Woodbridge VA Dog Park and mingle with other dogs and owners.
  5. Of course one of the attractions in Woodbridge VA, no one should miss in Woodbridge is go shopping at Potomac Mills. Even if you are not big into shopping you can go walking at the mall or enjoy one of the great restaurants at Potomac Mills. As of right now they have the Cheesecake Factory, Bahama Breeze and the newest restaurant to come will be Matchbox.
  6. There are many other great parks in Woodbridge VA to visit. I personally like a park right up the street from my house, but there are bigger parks like Veterans Park, Lesylvania State Park and more.
  7. In the summer go visit one of the pools. Many of the area pools are associated with an HOA, but there are also public pools like for example the Dale City Water Park. Great pool for young and old. With a fun waterslide.
  8. Summer or winter, but mostly during the summer I love to go to Tim's Rivershore for a drink right at the waterfront. This place is not just for boaters it is truly something for everyone.
  9. Bowling at AMF. I am not the best bowler but bowling at the AMF in Dale City is always so much fun. I am super competitive and like to win at anything I am doing but regardless of winning or losing bowling is always great fun.
  10. Golf in Woodbridge VA. If you are one of the many golf fans you will love it in and around Woodbridge, there are many great golf courses.

10 Things Motorcycle Enthusiast Want You To Know

Picture of Motorcycle Enthusiast, Joshua Tullis, Mortgage Loan Officer with Bank of America

Article Brought To You By
571-446-0002

You've seen the signs and stickers that read, "Look Twice, Save A Life" and "Loud Pipes Saves Lives".  These proclamations are brought to you by Motorcycle Enthusiasts and the people that love them.  But, do you really know and understand what these signs mean?  We have compiled a list of things cars, or as motorcycle enthusiasts refer to them as, cages should know when driving next to motorcycles.

  1. Share The Road!  Over half of all motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle.  Most of the time it is the vehicle that is at fault.  Although never intentional, people in cars often time do not see or hear bikes.
  2. You Cannot Rely On Your Mirrors!  Motorcycles Are Easily Hidden In Your Blind Spot.  Motorcycles have a narrow profile and are often times hidden in your blind spot.  When changing lanes or turning always make sure to look and never rely solely on your mirrors.
  3. Look Twice, Save A Life!  Motorcycles are so much smaller in size than vehicles.  It is very difficult to judge the distance of a motorcycle or the rate of speed it is coming.  When you are at an intersection and see a motorcycle, it is always best to let them pass before pulling out.  You will be surprised how quickly they appear in front you.
  4. Never Follow Too Closely!  It makes all motorcycle riders very nervous, even upset, when a vehicle is following too closely.  Motorcyclist typically downshift or just roll off the throttle when they are coming to a stop.  Often times you will not see brake lights to warn you they are coming to a stop and if you are not paying attention the consequence could be deadly.  Always allow extra room between you and a motorcycle in front of you.  Be cautious of keeping that same distance by adjusting your speed to the motorcycle in front of you.
  5. Stay In Your Lane!  It is critical you stay in your lane.  Despite the laws and campaigns, texting and driving is so common these days.  It is especially important when you have motorcycles near you that you stay focused on driving and staying in your lane.  Many times you will see motorcycles adjust positions within their lane.  They are not showing off or trying to be reckless but they need to reposition themselves to avoid debris or to be seen better.  Most of the time you will see motorcycles riding to the left or the right of their lane.  They are not trying to be close to you this is just the safest position for them especially in inclement weather.  Down the center of the lane is where cars leak oils and fluids.  The center part of the lane is most slick and dangerous for motorcycles.  The saying, "Loud Pipes, Saves Lives" comes from motorcycles enthusiasts specifically Harley riders, put loud pipes on their bikes to make sure you hear them in your cage (car).  If you are swerving in your lane, you will hear a biker rev his engine, crack his pipes, to let you know you are making them very nervous.
  6. Give Them Space!  You can never give a motorcycle too much space.  They require a lot of maneuverability and sometimes need to change lanes quickly.  In a car, when you leave the signal on you have an annoying bell or ding to remind you to turn it off.  Motorcycles do not have this luxury and sometimes inadvertently leave their turn signals blinking.  Always be sure the blinker is for real or if unsure just stay out of their way.
  7. Constantly Tapping Your Brakes Is Dangerous!  Just like following too closely to a bike is dangerous, making the bike get too close to your car is too.  Motorcyclists are always trying to look to 2-3 cars ahead to make sure they know what to anticipate when it comes to slowing down.  If the vehicle in front of them is constantly braking this can create a deadly crash.  Always maintain a constant speed and if you feel a bike is too close to the rear of your car, feel free to move over so they can pass.  Regardless of who is at fault in an accident, no one wants to be part of a bad outcome.
  8. Never Break Up A Pack!  Motorcycle enthusiast love going on long rides and especially with all their friends.  Many times when you see a "pack" of motorcycles it is for a charity even called a Poker Run.  Poker Runs and Fun Rides are popular in the Motorcycle community.  It is important to allow them to stay in the pack.  Never, ever break up a pack of motorcycles!  Always allow them to pass as a group and stay to together.  When they are riding as a pack, they will have Blockers, these are motorcycles that go ahead to block off intersections as the pack goes through.  Please be courteous to Blockers as they are just trying to protect the pack.  On a side note, when you see a Blocker post in front of an intersection, get your video ready on your phone.  You are about to hear and see an American tradition roll by you.  There is nothing like the sound of 20-30 bikes rolling down the road.
  9. See More Than The Motorcycle. The stigma of bikers is unfair.  All of bikers I know are hard-working family men & women.  Most of them are retired service members who enjoys the freedom of being on a bike.  When you look at motorcycles, try to see the person riding the bike not just the motorcycle.  They are someone's Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister. . it could be your Doctor, your neighbor or your pastor.
  10. Motorcycle Wrecks Never End Well!  If you get in accident with a motorcycle, the motorcycle and rider will always be the most hurt.  Regardless of who is at fault for the accident, I promise it will be an image that will forever weigh on your heart.  Please always go the extra mile to help keep all drivers and riders safe.
We hope you learned something new in this article and have a better understanding of motorcycles and their riders.  This weekend in honor of Memorial Day is one of the largest motorcycle gatherings in our area, Rolling Thunder.  To learn more about Rolling Thunder, check out our blog.

Memorial Day Weekend and Rolling Thunder For Northern Virginia

Brought to you courtesy of

This weekend marks an important Federal Holiday where we pause to honor and remember all the men and women who have died in military services for the United States.  Living in Northern Virginia, so close to District of Columbia, we are fortunate to have so many events planned this weekend in helping us pay tribute to our great military.  One of the biggest events being held is weekend is Rolling Thunder. Rolling Thunder's main event will take place this Sunday when  thousands of motorcycles will "Roll" into D.C for a ride from the Pentagon to The Vietnam Memorial Wall.  Have you ever heard the sound of thousands of motorcycles?  Thunder really is the best word to describe it.

Rolling Thunder is a non-profit organization founded in 1987 to bring full accountability for the Prisoner's of War and Missing in Action of all United States Wars.  Their motto is, "We Will Never Forget." Each year since 1988, they organize an annual motorcycle run the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend for a ride to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, also known as the Freedom Run.  Motorcycle participants leave the Pentagon parking lot at Noon in a parade setting making their way to the Wall.  Each year Motorcycle's and riders are decorated with American flags, patriotic attire and POW flags as they head to the Wall with streets lined with spectators dressed in Red, White and blue waving flags at the participants.   This event is really beautiful as it captures the love for our military and reminds that patriotism is still alive and well.

The parade officially starts at Noon on Sunday, May 24 but it is highly recommended you get there early.  Many people start showing up to find their spot along the parade route as early at 9 a.m.  During this event their are many road closures in downtown D.C. and parking is scarce.  Taking the Metro into D.C. is definitely your best choice.  You can find more about the parade route, Thunder Alley shopping & all this weekend events organized by Rolling Thunder Run at or on Rolling Thunder's official website

On behalf of everyone here at Claudia S. Nelson Real Estate Team of Woodbridge, we wish every a blessed and safe Memorial Day Weekend!  We hope everyone is able to give pause and remember the true meaning of this Holiday.  And remember there is always a lot of travelers on the roads any Holiday weekend but this weekend we will also have a lot of motorcycles from all over the country.  To learn more about motorcycle safety, please check out my blog, Things Motorcycle Enthusiast Want You To Know.

Best places for Brunch in and around Woodbridge VA

Best places for Brunch in and around Woodbridge VA

There are some great places to go to have brunch in and around Woodbridge VA. Here is an unofficial list with great brunch places in the Woodbridge VA area:

Bistro L'Hermitage
They offer a great french inspired brunch menu on the weekend. They serve brunch Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 to 2:30. I went there the other day for mothers day and have to admit their food is delicious. After brunch, you can go for a stroll in historic Occoquan with all its shops.

Uncle Julio's
Uncle Julio's is a great place at all times. I personally have not tried out their brunch menu yet, but it honestly looks delicious. I love going to Uncle Julio's anytime. They offer great chips and salsa with all their food and drinks and don't let me get started on their margaritas. So yummy.

The Cheesecake Factory
Located at Potomac Mills The Cheesecake Factory offers a great Sunday Brunch Menu. You can go shopping at Potomac Mills before or after Brunch. The Cheesecake Factory is always a popular destination for diners.

Charbroil Grill
They offer a Brunch 10:30 to 2:30 at a set price. Looking at the menu it looks delicious and of course like everything at Charbroil Grill unlimited.

The Secret Garden
This great restaurant is located in historic Occoquan and offers a great Sunday Brunch Buffet at a set price. This lovely restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. The buffet includes a waffle and omelet station, bacon and sausages, potatoes and, of course, a dessert section and fruit selection.

Cock & Bowl
This Belgian Restaurant is located in historic Occoquan like many other Brunch Restaurants. Occoquan is a popular place for brunch. I love this place and my favorite are the mussle bowls and their waffles, all absolutely delicious and if you haven't been there you should definitely head there for brunch or any other time.

The Landing Restaurant
This is a newer restaurant in the Woodbridge VA area and it has gotten great reviews so far. I have to admit that I have not yet tried this new place but do have it on my list of restaurants to try out. Their brunch menu looks great and is reasonably priced.

The Bungalow Alehouse
This local Woodbridge VA sports bar offers a great brunch menu with a delicious drink selection. Mimosa, Bellinis and more. Not that I am advocating drinking at brunch but every now and then it's great to having that option for brunch.

Bonefish Grill
You don't have to like fish in order to love this restaurant. I honestly didn't know that they offer a brunch menu but doing research for this list I found out that they offer brunch. So guess where I will be going one of these days for brunch soon.

Occoquan Inn
They offer a brunch buffet at a set price Sunday from 11 to 2 pm. Champagne and Mimosas for $2.- great deal. The buffet is $12.- for adults and $6.- for kids.

You can always go to IHOP or Dennys for brunch but if you want something special and not traditional for brunch then you might want to look at one of the above great Woodbridge VA brunch places. Altough, I love IHOP and Dennys but I also enjoy going to any of the the other Woodbridge VA brunch places.
